The Authentic Woman with Shannon Fisher – Perspectives on the Female Experience in America is a weekly radio show (also available by podcast) airing Sunday nights at 8:00 pm EST/EDT on the Authors on the Air Global Radio Network. This broadcast, hosted by journalist and women’s rights leader, Shannon Fisher, explores every aspect of the female experience – society, politics, career, family, finance, spirituality, creative expression, and sexuality. The Authentic Woman is a sounding board from which guests can dish about their lives, their work, their joys, and their struggles.
Interviewing both well-known public figures and everyday Janes and Joes, Shannon delves deeply into the world of writers, artists, community leaders and celebrities. Each week, Shannon’s guests share the ideas and events that have sculpted their own personal perspectives – and their cultural and societal experience as a whole. From historical figures to fictional characters to well-known personalities, we all have a story to tell. This radio show is the time and place to tell it.
About Shannon Fisher:
Shannon Fisher is a journalist, social and political commentator, civic leader, and human rights advocate. Named among the “Richmonders of the Year” in 2012 by Style Weekly Magazine for her activism in women’s rights, Shannon sits on the Board of Directors for UniteWomen.org, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit advocacy organization. While leading UniteWomen.org’s Unite Against Rape program, Shannon made strides to raise public awareness of the issues of rape, human trafficking and violence against women by widely sharing information about these epidemics and enlisting the participation of high-profile legislators, journalists and celebrities to help inspire public interest in these important topics. Shannon is a member of the National Press Club and hosts media-related interviews for NPC podcasts.
A lifelong student of public policy, sociology and the arts, Shannon Fisher is a graduate of both The College of William and Mary and the year-long Political Leaders Program at the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at The University of Virginia. Shannon also studied Journalism for Social Change via the University of California, Berkeley. She has been writing and working in the fields of public and community relations for nearly twenty years. Her articles and essays have been published in newspapers, magazines, anthologies, news sites and blogs. A seasoned public speaker and performer, Shannon has worked with Universal Studios, PBS, The Theatre of Note, The Music Theatre of Southern California, and the Authors on the Air Global Radio Network. By educating the public and raising awareness of important social/political issues, Shannon strives to enact positive change in the world – one day, one issue, and one person at a time.
